My husband does remodeling for a living, so we exclusively do our own remodeling. Our child is always with us, so we wanted to make our space the perfect fit for each of us. Something very important to me was making our bathroom a place easy for potty training and learning basic life skills such as washing hands and brushing teeth.

We made a toddler bathroom area within our bathroom. My husband removed a wall and extended the bathroom from what was previously a closet. This area is the perfect size for a toddler. This area allows freedom with privacy to use the toilet, but also to independently wash hands and brush teeth. Although it is not always used, it does get a fair amount of use. Also, if you are a parent that never goes to the bathroom alone, it doubles as privacy for yourself.

I prefer to have splashes of color rather than bright colors in large quantities. So we made the colors more neutral, but then added a trucks and cars shower curtain from Pottery Barn Kids, as well as a truck bath mat to add color and excitement for our child.

We also made the shower more kid-friendly by adding a niche in the shower for all of the kid products.

Although these are not huge changes, they do make our child feel included. Everything we have for our daily lives is adaptable for a child. Which is a main goal for us. We were not trying to fit our child into our lives, rather we wanted to make an environment that works equally for everyone. These are just a few ways we turned our bathroom into a family bathroom!
