Simple Musubi Bowl

Simple Musubi Bowl

Growing up, Hawaiian cuisine was very much a part of my daily life. My mom gave us a lot of Hawaiian and Japanese food on a regular basis. One of my family’s favorite easy Hawaiian meals to have for lunch or anytime really, is spam musubi. However, as I have become a parent, I have altered it a bit to better fit our lives. My child loves musubi so much, but when its made the traditional way, about half of the rice on each musubi gets thrown away. So, instead I like to make musubi bowls. My friend and I have a running joke because she writes recipes out for me and most of the time she tells me to measure with my heart. But I am a very exact person, so I like specifics. However, this is not really a recipe, more of a lunch suggestion, because you really should measure based on your preferences. I make white rice, then cook diced up spam.

The bowls pictured only have rice, furikake, and spam in them. However, some toppings that we use depending on our moods are soy sauce, and teriyaki. Which if I am going to use either of those, I will cook the spam in it on the stovetop. But my child was not feeling that today. So we went very plain. My husband likes to add his own toppings to everything, so he likes to add bbq sauce. I also like to do kewpie mayo and then eat it in roasted seaweed. I hope you try this quick and simple lunch out and enjoy!
