As a child, my mom used to make myself and my siblings special keepsakes. One of my favorite keepsakes was a blanket that she made me. As a mom, I want my child to also have keepsakes to have throughout life. So, when I was pregnant, I crocheted a baby blanket. Then for my child’s first birthday, I had an artist draw out all of the dogs we had when I gave birth to make as a design print. Because these are the dogs we brought our baby home to, I wanted to always have an easy way to remember them.

One of the things I wish I had more of now that I am an adult, is more pictures of the dogs I had growing up. So, I wanted to make sure my child always has something to remember our dogs by. My child loves this blanket, and loves talking about each dog. Since one of the dogs on the blanket has passed away, my child especially likes to talk about her when we look at the blanket. I also had this pattern printed onto fabric for clothes and made a couple pairs of pajamas.

The next year, I had the same artist draw out more personalized features for a design because my child had developed more interests. It is so nice to have these blankets because they also help us keep track of milestones and personality development. During this time, we had gotten chickens, and knew that our child liked tractors.

Most recently, I let our child pick out fabrics for a rag quilt. After much scrolling online and in-store shopping, we found the perfect fabrics for the blanket marking the fourth year. Something that I really love about this blanket is that because each pattern was specially selected by my child, we spend a lot of time talking about each square and what is on it. These are just a few keepsakes that we have for our child.
